Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDENNIS HARRISON LLOYD
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Harrison Lloyd at Riverview Health Centre – Palliative Care, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Dennis was born in Winnipeg on May 6, 1938, to Fred and Ellen Lloyd. He grew up in the west end on Downing Street with his parents, sister Julie (Cooper), and his aunties, uncles, and cousins close by. Dennis attended Sargent Park and Principal Sparling School in his younger years, and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Throughout his school years Dennis was active in all sports. He excelled in track and field as a high jumper.
In 1952, Dennis walked Doreen (Thompson) home from a Grade nine school dance, and this is where their lives together began. Dennis and Doreen married on September 30, 1960, and moved into their family home in the Deer Lodge community area, where they began their family with Lisa, Dave, and Doug.
Dennis was a firefighter who retired as Battalion Chief after 40 years of service. Dennis was active in the United Firefighters of Winnipeg – Local 867, as a member of the Executive and as President. His local union involvement led to him serving as a Canadian Trustee with the International Association of Firefighters and then transitioning to a Trustee Emeritus with the IAFF.
Connections and relationships with family, friends, community and colleagues were immensely important to Dennis.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ellen Lloyd; his in-laws, Frank and Frances Thompson; and his sister Julie.
Dennis will be missed greatly by his loving wife of 65 years, Doreen; his children, Lisa, David, and Doug (Kelly); who will keep his memory alive with his grandchildren, Ash (Bran), Taylor (Matt), Davis (Karina), Andrew, Jordan, and Eden; and his great-grandchildren, Autumn, Grace, Maicee, Jayden, Easton, and Hunter.
Dennis was proud of the role that he played in beginning a pathway towards presumptive legislation for firefighters who acquired cancer in the line of duty. Unfortunately, Dennis needed to access the benefits under this legislation during his cancer journey.
With the support of Dr. Russel Albak, Case Manager, Nancy Fiebelkorn, and the entire PRIME team at Deer Lodge Centre over the past number of years, Dennis was able to remain in his home with Doreen until December 31, 2025 when the Palliative Care Team at Riverview Health Centre ushered him – and supported his family – to a peaceful end.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Charleswood United Church located at 4820 Roblin Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in memory of Dennis, to the PRIME Program at Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 0L3; The Firefighters Burn Fund at PO Box 45001 RPO, Kildonan Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2C 3C7; or a charity of your choice.

Dennis was just a great guy! Neighbour Geo McLean and Dennis were responsible for me joining the Fire Dept. Thankyou, Thankyou. We shared in many life experiences, both on and off the job. Dennis always had my back-even when I didn't deserve it. Rest in peace old friend. His loving wife, Doreen was always there to support Dennis. Brother Dennis Lloyd was both a great Firefighter and a great trade unionist. His work to improve pensions for all civic employees was groundbreaking. My late Father, Lloyd Moist, served with Dennis as a fellow firefighter. In the early 1980's as Chief of the Department he worked with Dennis, then President of UFFW Local 867. My Father had great respect for Dennis as both a Firefighter and a principled trade union leader. My sincere condolences to the entire Lloyd family. We came to know Dennis & Doreen through my daughter , Kelly. Never one to judge others before he physically met you, he welcomed us into his family. We instantly liked both of them. They obviously were a solid “team”! They were very active in Doug & Kelly’s lives - so giving of themselves. Doreen baked the cookies and Dennis was the creative artist who decorated them to be given out before Christmas. It became an annual “gift” to take to K & D’s home before Christmas! Dennis used to participate in family games out in the back yard, always making our get togethers special. Many summers, while hosting Eden’s birthday celebration, Dennis would be a conversationalist who encouraged others to participate in the chatter. We realized he was a soft-spoken, solid human being who cared for others; very humble…one who cared deeply for his wife and family. - Posted by: Linda & Dave Gillis (Extended family) on: Jan 31, 2026
